Omg I remember loving that book as a child!
It's a sad, little bit creepy book now. Have you read the Dare Wright bio, The Secret Life of the Lonely Doll? Very interesting.
I loved that book too. But Amy is right about the change in its reputation...Poor Edith.
Hoo boy, this takes me back. I'm not sure I ever actually read this book, but I loved looking at the pictures when I was a kid.
I have read the Dare Wright biography. I can recommend it. She had a very interesting life, not one you would associate with her books either. There was talk of a movie for a while, but I don't think it ever came to anything.I think the creepy reputation is undeserved, myself. I've read this book, and I one another calle The Little One which has largely the same story. I'll go for dated, they are dated at this point, but no more creepy than the Alice books in my view. And I think the creepiness there is really in the eye of the reader, not in the books themselves.
I would totally go to a movie version of the Dare Wright bio!
